I'm Keith. A writer, marketer, and someone who likes to experiment with business ideas.
I write about business,self-development, blogging, health, & travel. I've written about everything from breathing techniques to furniture e-commerce stores to senior bus travel in New Zealand.
If anyone can see a pattern there, please let me know! But writing about everything and anything is a good thing. At least Aldous Huxley thought so, and he knew a few things about writing.
I used to turn out articles on everything from decorative plaster to Persian rugs … I did dramatic criticism for the Westminster Gazette. Why—would you believe it?—I even did music criticism. I heartily recommend this sort of journalism as an apprenticeship. It forces you to write on everything under the sun, it develops your facility, it teaches you to master your material quickly, and it makes you look at things.”Aldous Huxley
This is a blog without a niche.
I haven’t tried to capture any market. I’ve just tried to be honest with my writing.
Writing is one of the most important skills to have in the modern world. The ability to express yourself clearly and make your ideas and thoughts understood is very powerful.
The book ‘Letters of note’ from the greater of the eponymous website was an inspiration. This wonderful book reveals the thoughts of famous personalities through beautiful prose in the form of letters. Richard Feynman’s letter to his dead wife is a case in point. Written like a journal entry to himself, Feynman showed a warm, sentimental side that is almost absent from his books.
Putting words down on paper or in this case, on the internet, is the modern equivalent of the stone tablet. The ancient Egyptians once banned writing, believing that committing words to non-oral forms would impose a powerful influence over people.
What I take from this is that words expressed in speech are like a knife that cuts sharply and be produced and retracted rapidly, but the written word truly is a sword. Slower to extract but devastating in its form.
The written word is what essentially helped man create culture, business, and in effect civilisation.
If the words on these pages help you or make you stop and think, please comment or let me know. I love to start discussions about topics I'm passionate about.
I am blogging in order to
- Learn to write and become a better writer
- Learn to put my thoughts down in a rational and well-constructed way
- Get over my aversion to publicity and self-marketing
- Help others
- Make a difference, no matter how small
I hope you find something valuable in this blog. If not valuable, I hope it’s funny. If all else fails, I hope it kills time while you take breaks between watching cat videos.
Thanks for reading.
